Spontaneity vs Planning

I'm typically a long term planner. I mostly lean this way to get the deals and have time to save up for the next great adventure. I also plan long term so I have something to work for and look forward too. My long term planning has been rewarded with many wonderful adventures over the years, but lately I've noticed that it is much more difficult to make a long term plan mostly because so many of my loved ones' lives are in flux.

When lives are in flux, it's difficult to plan long term. Plus, when you make a long term plan with unpredictable, ever changing lives, you're apt to lose more money than you save. So for the year ahead, I'm mostly shifting to spontaneity when it comes to most planning.

What are the advantages of spontaneity?

Plan for the weather

Rather than planning long term for a beach weekend or hike in the mountains, you wait until it's the just right weather for events like that. When the weather is just right, events are often better.

A sense of surprise

Spontaneity bring surprise to events. There's excitement when you wake up in the morning and simply take off on an adventure.

Ensuring the people you love can be there

Typically planning ahead is better if you want the people you love to be there, but when those lives are in flux, spontaneity may be a better choice.

I'll be interested to see how this shift to spontaneity occurs and what adventures are ahead. Onward.
