My family just spent a weekend adventuring in Washington, D.C. We had lots of good times. DC is a great city to visit and explore for lots and lots of reasons. There's great big sidewalks for walking, lots of wonderful free museums, great theater/music, a river to explore, gardens, monuments, and lots more. On my way home, I realized that it's time to update my travel accounts and prep for the days ahead. Over time, attention to these accounts have afforded us some wonderful trips.
Air miles
Our credit card has translated into lots and lots of air miles which has afforded us many, many good trips over time. We've used credit cards that give us many miles and try to pay most of our bills with those credit cards. Then we plan ahead to take advantage of those miles.
Priceline, VRBO and more
Priceline, VRBO and other rental/travel sites have helped me to find affordable accommodations. Reading the reviews on those sites has helped me to plan our trips too. I try to add reviews as well to help others.
Research
As my dad did many years ago, I read a lot of articles about travel which helps us to plan good trips.
Keeping track of points, credits, and other advantages
As you travel you may accrue points and credits. You have to deliberately keep track of this to save money and get a travel advantage.
Creating an online file of all travel-related information helps a lot when it comes to planning trips. Planning ahead often saves you dollars too thought sometimes you may lose a few dollars if plans change. At times, you can get a deal with last minute plans too.
