When we consider the many efforts we are involved in, one question we often ask ourselves is, Are we doing all we can? This is a question commonly asked by parents, relatives, workers in every discipline, community members, friends and others. Naturally we want to be there for those we love and that which we value and support, and "to be there" means doing all that we can to help out, improve and serve.
I thought about this today as I looked at the days to come and the people/efforts I support and work for. When I do this, I begin with a vision of what is ideal. Often that vision is created by asking those I serve and work for what they need, want and desire as what's very important with regard to service work is letting those you serve, lead you. Generally people know what they need, want and desire, and fulfilling those wants for people typically leads to good service and betterment. Consulting the research often helps too--there are many experts out there offering good data and information that helps you in any endeavor you embark on.
It's also important to make sure you do what you need to do in order to be a healthy, energized worker, caretaker and companion. If you lack good health or energy, you can't do the work you want to do.
And, taking time to think about the situation with the question, Are you doing what you can?, helps you to right the road ahead in positive ways. Onward.
