When I look back at some of the greatest challenges I faced as an educator, I see the issues with much greater clarity now since I have had a couple years distance from the situation. Too often struggle continues because we don't give ourselves the needed distance to gain clarity. Stepping away from a situation with enough time and space gives you the kind of vantage point you need to understand what's going on and what you need to do.
I thought of that recently with regard to another situation I've been dealing with. A little distance at this juncture will provide good perspective and clarity with regard to next steps. Simply stepping back to gain perspective is a good strategy with regard to struggles or problems. Typically this strategy will lead you to promise with regard to solving problems in your midst. Onward.
