How can you set the stage to do your best in life? What do you need and what don't you need. I thought of this today as I transition into a new phase of life, a phase that requires some important shifting to be able to respond to the needs that exist. What will I do?
Simplify
Less things, more time and flexibility. Things take up space and require time and energy. The fewer things you own and have to care for, the more time and flexibility you have. If you're not ready to get rid of things, simply box them up and put them away. Clear the environment to give yourself the space and time you need to do your best.
Essential items
In everyone's life there are a number of essential items that allow you to do the valuable work that matters to you. What are the essential items in your life? For me, I make that list based on items I use regularly, and items that I can't access elsewhere. For example, I enjoy books, but most books, I can access online or at a local library. I don't need a lot of old time books in my midst, plus the dust they collect interferes with my health. So I can get rid of all but my very best books including books I want to share with others, books I'm saving to read to my future grandchildren, and books I reference regularly for inspiration and insight.
On my essential list are tools and equipment related to gardening, composition, cooking, entertaining, research, adventure, and travel.
Time
For me, time is a critical need when it comes to doing my best. I need lots of personal time so ridding my schedule of non essential activity, buys me time.
Proximity
In general, I don't like to drive, and I like to be near the places and people that help me do my best in life.
Reserves
I have an "empty drawer" mindset which means that if I have space, money, time reserved for spontaneous, flexible, purposeful activity, I'm ready to do what I love and want to do most. Having reserves is important when it comes to doing my best.
What kind of stage helps you to do your best in life? What does that stage look like and how does it behave? What must you keep and what don't you need anymore? Is there anything you want to add to prepare the stage more for your best living?
Preparing the stage of life to do your best is an important step in any endeavor that's important to you. How will you make this happen? Onward.
