As you get older, I believe it's the little things in life that bring you the most joy. Certainly a nice vacation, celebration, long desired purchase or a personal win via family, work or recreation can bring you joy, but in general, filling your life with lots of regular, light experiences of happiness will provide you with many joyful days.
So, what little things bring you great happiness? How would you answer these questions?
- What people bring you happiness? How and when do those people bring you happiness?
- What foods and drinks make you happy and healthy?
- What places make you happy?
- What parts of your home bring you happiness?
- What activities make you happy?
If you have trouble answering those questions, you can start with what makes you unhappy? This week I had to have a routine medical procedure that made me very unhappy. Knowing what makes you unhappy can lead you to ways to avoid those unhappy moments if possible and good for your overall living.
On the flip side of this search, you might also want to think about what it is that you do that makes people happy? How can you be apart of other people's happiness. Generally when we make people happy, we'll be happy too.
I believe that the search for happiness is a worthwhile search for individuals, groups and communities. When we're happy we do better for ourselves and others. So, like me, take a few minutes to consider your happiness objects, activities and people. Then figure out how to make those a staple in your life. Onward.
