Family reunion packing list

How do you pack for a family reunion? Our family has been establishing family reunion traditions over time. Today as I thought ahead, I thought about what to bring to make for a good time. Here's the list:

Healthy food to enjoy and share

We divvy up the food assignments and bring the foods we'll need for breakfasts, lunch and dinner. We buy a few foods that require cold temperatures near our destination.

Hiking boots and equipment

We always plan to hike so that requires hiking boots, clothes, poles, backpacks and other related equipment.

Swimming gear

We fit in swims if we are able.

Bikes and gear

If there's still room in the car or on the schedule, we'll pack our bikes.

Indoor/outdoor games

Bringing a collection of games to play adds to the fun.

Clothing layers

We typically travel in the northeast where the weather can range from quite cold to quite warm so packing layers is essential.

Books, notebooks, tech, pens

It's always good to pack some supplies for down time and individual time.

Paper plates, cups, napkins

For the large gatherings it's always easier to use paper plates.

Tents and camping gear

Sometimes we rent houses or stay with loved ones, yet other times we plan to tent.

First aid, medications, sunscreen, bug spray

If there are needed medications, bring them. It's always good to bring a first aid kit as well as bug spray and sunscreen.

Having what you need helps to make the reunion enjoyable for all. Onward.

Family Reunions reminders for 2023

  • As in years past, plan one signature event and shared dinner
  • Keep the shared dinner healthy and simple--a big salad, some good protein--easy to prep/serve pot luck with some tasty desserts is probably best
  • Try to arrive a day early and stay a day later for a smooth reunion weekend
  • Let people know the dates ahead
