I didn't expect the care taking journey to be this long. I thought this leg of the road would be much shorter as I remembered it to be with my grandparents. Yet, as I engage in this life chapter, I realize that when my grandparents were in their last chapter, I was distanced from their day-to-day care. I didn't realize what my parents were doing at that time to care for them. Now, that I'm in that role, I look back and see the details differently. I do remember my parents trouble shooting a number of situations trying to figure out what to do.
The best advice I received lately related to this chapter in life is to create a good team. If a good team doesn't exist or if the team in place needs greater strength, reach out and find others that will help. Yesterday was a good example of that. A need presented itself. I didn't have the knowledge or tools to meet the situation, so I reached out to an expert. The expert came, educated us, and began dealing with the problem. It was so comforting to have someone there who quickly knew what to do and was able to perform the task right away. That helped a lot!
I have learned a lot during this chapter. I've become closer with my parents and see life with greater depth than I did before. I've also thought a lot about what's important in my life too. There is much to be learned in each chapter in life, and there is much to do to navigate each chapter with as much joy and positivity as possible. Onward.
