When we think of cleaning, we often think of spring cleaning, but fall cleaning also plays a big role as we think ahead to the holiday season and the cozy winter cocoons we create. I was finally able to dive into a few rooms at home now that my sons have moved most of their items into their new apartments for the year ahead, and as I cleared and cleaned the spaces, I thought about all the fall projects that will make the home warm and inviting.
Clean spaces
There's simply a lot of clean up to do after a summer of tracking all kinds of outdoor stuff into the home. A regular routine of deep cleaning in the next few weeks will take care of that.
Simplifying
No matter how many attempts I make to purge and simplify, it seems that our home collects items left by visitors who come to stay or visit for a short time. So, fall cleaning will include a purge of multiple small items which will hopefully find new homes.
Updating
There may be time and will to update a few spaces too with fresh coats of paint and other techniques that make the place comfortable for guests and family members when they visit.
Reorganizing
I'll have the holidays in mind as I reorganize the kitchen and other spaces to accommodate guests and our holiday traditions.
The often crisp fall air provides a perfect compliment for the fall clean-up too. Onward.
