One aspect of thematic events that I enjoy is that events like these bring you into new worlds. For example, in a few months, I'll host an Egyptian brunch. Egypt is the theme because friends of mine are traveling to Egypt and I want to have a celebration before they leave.
I have a cousin who teaches in Egypt and she's collecting a few favors from Cairo for me for the brunch. I also plan to explore some Egyptian recipes and cultural traditions to incorporate into the casual brunch. It's been many years since I've studied Egypt. One of my sons spent some time there a few years back--he had an awesome, guided tour. When I was a grade school student we studied a whole unit about Egypt, and I also had a few Egyptian students during my teaching tenure who taught me about the country.
Thematic events have a way of taking you away from the day-to-day routines you're used to. These events bring some new perspective, light, and life to daily living. I'll spend a bit of time today beginning my preparation for this stay-at-home thematic "travel" event. Onward.
