Monitor the evil, respond, and promote the good possible

More than ever likely due to the rise and ease of information share as well as the power some dangerous egomaniacs hold in the world, we are aware of the evil that exists in our world. We can easily become obsessed or stymied by this evil. Instead I think it's important to monitor the evil, respond in ways that you can to end or mitigate the evil, and do the good possible.

What does that mean in real time?

It is important to stay abreast of what is happening in the world around you via reputable, honest reporting. Determine sources of good, accurate information. I use a balance of books, NPR, popular television stations, local newspapers, Internet articles via known magazines and other sources, expert share via social media, and conversation with individuals.

How can we positively respond to the evil that exists?

- report the news accurately

- support initiatives that work against the evil in positive ways, initiatives such as new laws, policies, reputable leaders, honest government, positive public events and supports.

- work against supporting the evil in any way--find out what increases these evil doers' power and danger, then work against that with peaceful advocacy and effort.

What good can we do?

It is within everyone's capacity to do some good--the kind of good that promotes positivity rather than negativity, danger, and destruction. No matter who we are, we can work to spread the good in multiple ways including these actions:

  • Act with inclusivity. Don't leave people out, but instead include even the naysayers in the positive efforts you promote. For example, the positive work Democrats are doing doesn't leave out errant MAGA supporters but instead includes all. We can do that in our own lives in small, but meaningful ways.
  • Don't give power, attention, or support to evil initiatives. Work and live within humane, positive bounds of positive effort, discourse, ideas, and advocacy.
  • Do some good everyday. Everyday act in ways that promote the good. This can be as simple as writing notes or making calls to people who are lonely, ill, or needy in some ways or hosting a meal for family members. You can write letters to encourage people to vote, make calls, send dollars to a good candidates' campaign, and make sure you vote too.
The good possible takes all of us. Do what you can to counter the evil and promote the good. We can all do this.
