Politics will continue to shift

Politics is not a static realm. Instead the political landscape is forever changing. That's why each of us has to decide how we'll navigate the waves of the political sea--how can we ride those waves in ways that promote the best possible political situation.

Know your values

Each of us has to understand our political values as well as regularly reflect about those values and then revise as needed. For example, my values in general connect to the theme of good living for all. I do believe that's a positive objective of political effort. Yet, that's a very general objective that can be interpreted in countless ways. So as I get more specific, I have to think about my values with greater detail. For example, I'm a pro-life individual. I believe that we have to protect and preserve lives as much as we can. That value prompts me to reflect on the question, What is life? and What is most important when it comes to protecting and preserving lives? These issues are not binary--there's no one right or wrong answer for complex situations, and that's why I'm not a fan of one-size-fits-all tight laws with regard to reproduction and other sensitive life-related issues.

Do your homework

Be wary of catchy sound bites and simple, repetitive responses when it comes to politics. Instead, do your homework. Study the background of candidates, leaders, and issues. Know the details. Ask questions, and seek greater understanding related to the questions you have. Beware of the use of propaganda, lies, and misinformation used by some politicians to mislead you for their own gain/fame. Make sure that the sources of information you study are reputable too.

Compromise is essential

If we are all to live good lives, we will have to compromise. Develop your ability to compromise in order to promote the common good at home, in the community, and in the large spheres of living.

Make political research and contribution a regular part of your routine

If you invest all of your time and effort into politics, you're likely to become wishy-washy. To jump into the political sphere like that is like putting yourself in a washing machine--you'll become crazy, but to make political research and action a regular part of your routine means that you'll contribute in positive ways while maintaining a good lifestyle for yourself, those you love, and others. A good routine may include daily reading/listening to political information, weekly advocacy and contribution, and a deep dive with regard to study and related political efforts now and then. A healthy routine of political action and research will differ with regard to time and effort for each of us, but it's important that everyone get involved in some positive ways in order to build a country that works for all of us.

Bottom line

There are some bottom line's to consider when getting involved in political efforts. For example, political candidates and leaders that continually break the law, spew hate and violence, cheat and act without compassion or care for humanity will always be destructive candidates--they will abuse our funds, positive efforts, and political routines in ways that harm and hurt our lives. Donald Trump is clearly an errant political figure, and we will do well to shun him and hold him accountable for his many crimes and corruption.

Candidates that continually work for the common good and actually make positive change deserve our attention. We should be looking beyond a candidate or leader's words to their actions. Who is actually making the changes we need for better living?

If we all have the opportunity to live well, everyone's lives will become better. As long as we allow some people to live in destitution and despair, good living for all will be a distant dream.

Live your best life

Best living for all of us will differ in multiple ways, but we can all reach for our best lives in positive ways, and when we do that, we lift each other up. That is the kind of political action that leads to positive leaders, leadership, and government. Onward.
