What will your Thanksgiving be like this year--what will you do?
As I've noted often, holidays are forever changing due to countless family events and changes.
Who is coming?
This year's holiday will be a mix of my family, my husband's family, and my daughter-in-law's family. It will be an adult affair with no little children this year. The advantage to that is that we'll all be able to sit at one table.
What's the agenda?
This year family members will spend the mornings adventuring in a myriad of ways and mostly outdoors. I'll spend the morning putting the finishing touches on the dinner. Then we'll gather around 2 p.m. for appetizers with dinner and dessert around 4 p.m. We may include games like Scrabble or an after dinner walk. My son may take out the karaoke machine for some song too. Time will tell.
What foods will be serve?
I've noticed that people gravitate towards the healthy, simple foods more than heavy, creamy foods so I'll make a lot of traditional, simple foods. Also, many people are bringing dishes to help out. The dinner will include the following foods:
- appetizer platter
- drinks with a signature cocktail
- turkey, stuffing, gravy, squash, sweet potatoes, green beans w/almonds, vegetarian side dishes made by guests, bread, cranberry sauce
- desserts made/brought by a few guests and myself
- clean the house
- set the table
- take the turkeys out of the freezer (Sunday before)
- review the recipes, make the cooking/serving timeline
- prepare the food
- welcome the guests
- enjoy the day
