Traditions that matter

With the holidays upon us, people are thinking about the traditions they carry out. What traditions are positive, and what traditions should be revised or retired?

Gratitude traditions

Traditions that promote gratitude are important and valuable. We need to make time to show our gratefulness for the people and good times in our lives. As I think about this, I want to continue and even improve the following gratitude traditions:

  • holiday toasts that acknowledge the good
  • thank you notes
  • gifts that acknowledge a person's kindness and care
  • good manners
  • making time to reflect on and acknowledge the good that so many bring to my life and all our lives
Activities that bring us together

I grew up with a very big family. We always had a large number of positive activities that brought us together. Creating and supporting events that bring us together is a good tradition. Some ways to do that include the following activities:
  • shared meals
  • time to create together
  • playing games
  • family reunions
  • meet-ups for friends and family
  • service work
  • exchange of gifts in enjoyable ways such as a Yankee Swap
  • outdoor adventures
  • attending an arts event
Our traditions matter as they often bring the richness to life. Onward.
