Some say I focus a bit too often on life's struggles. Clearly, the fact that my mom highlighted the bad news most mornings as a way of teaching me to be safe set me up for this perspective. Mom would read the sad and bad stories, and then give an empathetic lesson about living a good life. Mostly she would relay how the victim or criminal could have made a different, safer, better choice in life. Honestly, I did learn a lot about safety from those stories, and perhaps became a little overprotective too.
That said, this morning, the question, What's the worst thing that can happen?, came to mind as I thought about the living ahead. There are some terrible things that can happen to all of us--we read about and listen to descriptions of those horrible, life-changing events everyday. As for events, we have little control over, we can't worry too much about those as those events are out of our control, but there are lots of events within our control. We can work to raise safety, peace, good living, and happiness for all.
So today as I think about the worst that can happen, I'm moved to think about the best possible scenarios too--the good that can happen, and how I might promote that good with lots of small actions. That's where I'm headed today. Onward.
