As the new year approaches, I'm thinking of the good I can do. I want a daily ritual of helping out where I am needed and with what I can do. I don't want this to be a widely noticeable effort, but instead a more quiet, consistent routine.
Available
With regard to the good you can do, one good is to simply be available to those that need you. Availability and accessibility are positive when it comes to serving others.
Share your strengths, gifts, and talents
There's no one without strengths, gifts, and talents, and simply finding ways to share those strengths, gifts, and talents is a way to do good.
Listen and observe
You're more likely to meet someone's needs if you're attentive to their situation, behaviors, and desires.
Take care of yourself
You cannot give to others if you don't take care of yourself. Part of caring for yourself is having self respect. While it's great to help others, it is not great to be used by others. When you have self respect, you are less likely to be used or abused by others.
Do what you can; and know that you can't do it all
No one is super human.
Collaboration is a key
The more we collaborate with care around the needs of others, the better we will do.
Have some fun
That old adage about good making you dull is true--if you simply strive to help without adding fun, joy, and humor into the mix, you won't be as likely to serve in the best ways possible.
The more good you do, the better your life will be
This is true so fill your days with doing good in authentic, positive, life affirming, humane ways. We can all do this.
