I've watched and listened to the news related to Alec Baldwin's trial. It's a heart wrenching story since it's the story of the death of Halyna Hutchins, a young, bright mom and movie director. How did it happen? Why did it happen?
It's important for law enforcement and the courts to examine this situation with detail. My superficial understanding of the situation makes me believe that Baldwin was not aware that there were real bullets in the gun. I don't believe he would kill a director he respected. Like most people, I wonder why there were real bullets in the gun. Was Baldwin set up? Was it the result of sloppy preparation and work on the set? I don't know.
What can we learn from this situation?
Beware of sloppy work and lack of preparation
No matter what we do, we are wise to do the preparation necessary to ensure safety. Sometimes we all act in cavalier ways that disregard the need for safety and care. Sometimes we let our personal ambition, ego, desire to rise get in the way of what is right and good--we can't do that. We have to take precautions and ensure that proper preparations are in place.
Accidents happen
No matter how attentive we are to doing the right thing, accidents do happen. We are humans, and humans make a lot of mistakes. Some mistakes that people make are life changing in very negative, horrible ways. We have to have compassion for those harmed by this error including the person who commits the error.
Counter evil
Baldwin made fun of Donald Trump on SNL. Trump is a shady character who has been connected to bad acts over time. Was Baldwin set up by Trump and/or Trump supporters? We know that some who have put Trump at risk of being found out or who have not supported Trump, have been threatened and/or harmed. Could this crime be evidence of a sinister behind the scenes act.
In every way we have to counter the evil and error that hurts and harms lives. We also have to have compassion for those who are harmed or involved in any unknowing or accidental way. I hate to see people suffer, and this situation brought about a lot of suffering for too many. I hope they uncover the time line of what really happened, and may we all learn from it.
