There's nothing worse than a lazy critic--those curmudgeons who complain and find fault a lot, but never do the good work of making change. What creates the lazy critic, and how can we change that mostly detrimental character in our country's humanscape?
I thought of this today when I considered how a few lazy-critic relations may view a recent post I wrote. I'm sure that they would tear it apart since they have more specific, detailed knowledge about the topic. Yet, these individuals, rarely to never do the work of making good change. They don't speak up. They rarely read the newspaper. They don't work to support good leaders. Instead they sit back and do a lot of complaining.
As a child, whenever I would complain, my dad would say, "What are you going to do about that. You can't complain if you're not going to act to make change." Dad's words provided me with a good lesson. Rather than useless complaining alone, identify the problem, and then act to make positive change. Dad's teaching would have been even better if he sat down and talked out those complaints with me, and then helped me to act on my own or join advocacy groups to make the good change possible.
Lazy critics take us backwards rather than forward.
Today, many, if not most, of the Republican party is made up of lazy critics who cry and complain constantly, but do little to any of the hard work it takes to make positive change. They're a drag on our society right now. They're focus appears to be on their personal power, privilege, pleasure, profit, and protection alone, not on doing the good work to enrich and uplift the lives of individuals and society as a whole.
So when people complain a lot, do what my dad would suggest and ask them what they are going to do about that. Endless complaining does no one any good, but positive, informed, well-intended action can make a significant difference. We can do that.
