As I think of leadership good and not so good, I am reminded of these attributes of good leadership.
Know your team
Great leaders know their team. They know their team's strengths, challenges, hopes, capacity, and goals.
Nurture your team
Great leaders nurture their team--they know who their team members are and what their team members need to excel.
Solve problems with respect and dignity
Great leaders seek peaceful, respectful, dignified solutions to problems. Rather than striking out at team members and creating greater conflict, they work with colleagues and conflict to create as peaceful as possible solutions.
Positivity
Great leaders lead with positivity, good health, and an open mind. Great leaders don't choose rash judgement over listening and learning. Great leaders positively seek to develop organizations and members of those organizations in ways that matter.
Learn
Great leaders are eager learners. They don't think they know it all, but instead seek to learn more with those they lead.
Vision and Mission
Great leaders are clear about their vision and mission. They revisit that vision and mission often and update as needed.
Deal with the Details
Great leaders make sure that the integral details related to an organization's vision and mission are completed with accuracy and care.
Welcome debate
Great leaders welcome debate and critique because they know that bringing an open, ready mind to critique and debate helps to make organizations stronger and better.
Everyone is a leader in some capacity, and how you lead matters What elements of great leadership would you add to this list?
