What's your dream timeline like? For me and big dreams, it takes about five years for those dreams to come to fruition, and about a year for smaller dreams. In some ways, this timeline is frustrating because I see the dream well before it happens. The best example of this was an initiative I devoted hours to as an educator. I was committed to this dream, but after a few years, the support was still not there so I gave up on the project. Then a few years later, everyone everywhere was employing that project. If I had just stayed with it a while longer, I would have been a leader in a movement that caught on country-wide and my students would have been involved in very important project work. The lesson I learned from this was to stay with the dream.
Yesterday, I did bring a small dream to fruition--I had been carrying around this very small dream or plan for several months, but didn't have the energy or time to bring it to fruition, then finally yesterday I had the time and energy to complete the small, but valuable task. That felt good.
Dreamers like me sometimes stress out because we carry around lots of dreams that are in the cue for fruition. It can be frustrating to carry around a dream that few understand or support, dreams that you don't have the time or energy to carry out at that moment. Yet if we understand our dream timeline that helps a lot.
When I look back at my journals, I can see that I often wrote a lot about dreams about five years before those dreams became reality. That five-year dream wait time is natural for my dream timeline. I suppose the timeline is longer for people whose dreams are bigger and shorter for smaller dreams.
So as I consider my dreams today, I realize that many won't come to fruition until five years from now, but I know I'll be pleased with those dreams realized if I stay the course. Onward.
