It may surprise you to realize that some people simply don't care about the people, events, ideas or places you care about. Their focus is elsewhere, their priorities other, and their directions different. As I write this, this fact seems so simple and clear, but as we live life with deep passion, love, and care about specific topic, places, people, and events, it's difficult to believe others don't share our passions, and it's likely those same people may feel the same way about us.
I thought about this as a friend recounted a passion-filled story about her cats. I'm highly allergic to cats so while I enjoy a cat video or story, I can't invest a lot of real time with cats. I listened with care to my friend's story--I know how much those cats mean to her and her family. I know they invest significant dollars and time into caring for their cats. I honor this passion, but I don't share in that passion.
We connect with one another around our needs, interests, and passions. We have different groups for different interests, passions, questions, and pursuits. We can't expect friends from one group to be apart of other groups yet sometimes that happens.
In the best of circumstances, we demonstrate interest and support for our loved ones with regard to their passions and interests. We're there to hear their stories, demonstrate support, and encourage their good living. Onward.
