Hold back

Sometimes you have to hold back. Like many, I like a well organized life--the kind of life where there isn't a lot of room for uncomfortable surprise. I like issues to be resolved, people's directions acknowledged, and a sense of camaraderie and collective support. Yet, life is messier than that. As we all meander our own paths in life, there's a lot of unknown, surprise, and some mismatching efforts and directions too. We have to leave space in life for that because for people to live their best lives, they need time to figure out where they are headed and why, and that's why it's important to  hold back at times and let people live their lives. They'll likely circle back to you once they've figure out where they are headed.

At other times, and especially where safety is concerned, it's important not to hold back. If you think someone is in danger of some kind, it's worth reaching out and letting them know you're there to help them if they need it. You never want to regret staying silent in situations where you could have made a difference. So, in those circumstances, take the chance and reach out. Life is too short not to act when you believe that's the right thing to do.

Onward.
