Spring, summer, fall gatherings

Whether the weather is right or not, I'm officially starting the good-weather gatherings today. What does that mean? That means I'll get the house ready for many gatherings ahead during the spring, summer, and fall months. Too often it's easy to get stuck and not take advantage of these good weather months, and that's why I'll prep the house today so when the weather is right, we can either take off or invite people in to have a good time.

What do we consider a good time?

At-home

We like to blend get togethers with hikes, bikes, games, and other types of entertainment. In the months ahead, I can imagine hiking and biking many of the wonderful trails around our home or playing games, watching great films at home. I'd like to make some time for tennis too.

Day trips

Fortunately we live in an area where there are many day trip possibilities. These are some of the trips I'd like to take part in:

  • local woods, beach, and mountain hikes
  • lengthy beautiful bike trails on the Cape and in western Massachusetts
  • exploring the many state parks that exist
  • boating at local rivers, lakes
  • visits to arboretums and other plant centers
  • city hikes and exploration
Weekend getaways

As well as day trips, there are countless weekend destinations nearby that offer adventure and good times. There's a large variety of lodging beginning with low cost camping and extending to inns, motels, hotels, rentals, adn resorts. Some of the weekend getaways I'd like to consider include these:
  • biking in Burlington, Vermont
  • hiking in The White Mountains
  • kayaking in New Hampshire
  • island biking in Maine
When it comes to good times, I always consider the question, Are you nomad or a settler? I like this question because it helps you to consider well the kind of travel you like. Those who lean towards settler tend to settle in one place for a length of time, and those who lean towards nomad tend to like variety and moving around. I lean more in the nomad direction because I like the novelty and adventure of new places and I don't like all the tasks that come with settler holidays. Yet, I'll likely spend some time settling as well as moving around.

This rainy weekend is a good time to prep for spring, summer, and fall fun--make your list, prep your supplies, and do a little research so when the weather and timing is right, you're ready to enjoy your adventures. Onward.
