In general our family tends to engage in outdoor athletic activities in beautiful places when we get together. We have a lot of fun doing that, but I also think it's important to feed other parts of who we are and who we can be. That's why I've spent some time this week exploring family reunion activities related to arts, theater, and literature. What can we add to family events that expand our horizons?
With respect to that, I explored museums, art centers, and theater. Several years ago, our family attended a Mosaic Theater production in Washington, DC. That performance was thought-provoking and initiated some good conversation amongst family members. When my husband and I travel we almost always include theater and museums--we like getting a full picture of a place including the arts, government, culture, nature, food, and more.
Most recently I contacted a local arts center to see if they'd host us for an arts event when we visit. I'm waiting to hear back about options they may have for us. That would give us a unique way to interact with the local people and culture. It would also give us a fun way to connect outside of our usual banter, games, and athletic events.
There's so many creative ways to come together as a family and it's important to think creatively about the ways we connect. This makes life interesting and brings us together in unique and rich ways. Onward.
