Relationship reminders

As you age,  you value relationships more. In thinking about relationships, I'm reminded of the following relationship efforts.

Reciprocity

Few relationships remain strong if there is no reciprocity--to build a strong relationship, it has to be a give and take endeavor.

Rather than end a relationship, take a vacation from that relationship when things get tough

Some relationships do end, but if possible, take a break from a relationship rather than severing ties. A little time away often brings clarity to where a relationship needs to go.

Have fun together

Find those activities, places, and events that enable you and your friends to have fun together.

Respect and regard

Always treat friends with respect and regard. Be there for their significant events. Be compassionate, kind, and supportive when they need help.

Consistency

It's difficult to maintain friendships if you're always changing your mind. Be consistent as much as positive.

Honesty

When a relationship takes a negative turn, speak up sooner than later in an effort to repair the relationship. If you let too much time go by that can really damage a relationship.

Let things go

As they say, choose your battles wisely. It's often best to let small matters go.

Forgiveness

All friends make mistakes. None of us are superhuman. Be ready to forgive one another when necessary.

Stay in touch

Don't let too much time go by without contacting your friends.

Good relationships are a critical part of life. Do what you can to build and sustain those relationships. Onward.
