Bad events rarely just show up. Instead those undesired events mainly begin as small problems, fractures, errors and then develop over time until they become a disaster. By acknowledging undesired events early on, you can prevent the domino effect that leads to a bigger, more problematic situation.
What's difficult about this is that people often don't want to talk about or recognize challenging situations while they are small. For example, so many climate change deniers not only wouldn't talk about climate change, but they wouldn't acknowledge it thus creating a lot of lost time and potential when it came to working against the devastating effects of climate change, effects ever present today as we watch temperatures and seas rise, more devastating storms, and life-challenging droughts. When the alarms began to sound related to climate change, few to none paid attention.
I think we naturally resist problems and that's why people don't want to discuss problems when those issues are small. Many might think that the problems will disappear and talking about them will only exasperate matters. Some might be resistant to the research required when small problems pop up. I found myself resistant as the problems of predatory insects in my garden arose--they're eating my bed of broccoli plant by plant. I had to do the research and now I have to follow through to try to stop these hungry predators. I wished that problem would simply disappear, but rarely do problems disappear unless there's a concerted effort to resolve the matter in an intelligent, thoughtful, and usually collaborative manner.
Recently I gave a lot of attention to a small problem in my personal life. I considered the matter with depth, and after some research and reflection, I'll try out a solution which I don't think will solve the problem, but do think will lead me closer to the solution--problem solving generally is step-by-step process not a sudden resolve.
On the other hand, if you tire of perseverating on problems, you can instead invest in the domino effect that's related to positivity. Similar to the growth of problems, the growth of positivity has a domino effect too, an effect so clearly displayed in the movie, Pay it Forward. The more you act positively, the more positivity comes your way.
Whichever way you want to think about it, it's good to be aware of the domino effect in your life and the way this awareness helps you steer clear of the big problems and embrace the positivity possible. Onward.
