What life are you building; what life have you built?

As I read through the news this morning, I thought about an old friend and the life he's built. His life is clearly the result of dreams he had as a child, and dreams he spoke often about as a young adult. It's not surprise that this man has built the life of his dreams. He along with his wife have worked step by step towards this family centered life in a beautiful natural setting.

When we see people achieve the dreams they so long desired, it makes us stop and think about our own dreams and the life we are building or have already built? Is it the life we want? What more do we need to do in order to achieve our most precious dreams?

In thinking about my friend, I am happy for all that he's achieved. It is a good life with lots of love, care, commitment, and outreach too. Yet, with all that good, there's still the reality that one individual cannot live all lives. When you choose one path, object, or lifestyle, you don't choose another. We can't do all or be all.

I want to be more discerning in this chapter of life about what I choose and what I don't choose. I don't want to squander time with thoughtless choices that don't add up to much value in the present or the future. Instead, I want to choose that which brings value into my life and the lives of others.

I've been fortunate to have a lot of good throughout my life. I don't want to take that for granted and I do want to invest in the good aspects of life so that positivity continues.

I'll be thinking about what that means and what that looks like during this rainy early July day. Onward.
