Healthy fun!

Like most people, I love a good time, and I've been thinking a lot about what spells a good time for me these days as definitions of good times change as your own life and the life around you change. So what constitutes a good time for me in 2023.

Being with the people I love

There's nothing better than spending time with the family members and friends I love. I want to be with them, and we have the best times when we're engaging in activities we love the best. Those activities differ from person to person. For example, I spent the day with my cousin yesterday. We both love to go deep with conversation. We enjoy good food, and we both love nature and history. So next time we get together we'll likely visit a local history museum in a beautiful natural setting.

Favorite places

There's definitely types of places I enjoy more than others. I love natural spaces with forests, fields, waterways, beaches, rocks, and views. Fortunately and thanks to conservationists now and in the past, there are lots of these beautiful places to visit.

Budget-friendly

It's best to do things that fit the budget because that creates a stressless event.

Healthy, creative, enjoyable and sometimes competitive events

It's great to engage in some enjoyable, healthy endeavor and possibly competition. For example last weekend many family members engaged in a 5K race for a good cause. We had fun cheering each other on and we felt great after that athletic event. This weekend, Mother's Day weekend, will be focused on gardening and backyard fun which will include a lot of creative endeavor--I love creating with others as that brings a sense of surprise, humor, and joy--creative events tend to be memorable events too.

Healthy, delicious foods

Coupling any event with healthy, delicious foods is a win. Fortunately healthy ingredients can be found in most markets, so it's much easier to make great food at home now than in the past. There's also all kinds of eateries yet some are better than others so it pays to do your homework.

Learning, adventuring, exploring

I love a mix of tradition and novelty. I don't like to hike the same trails all the time. Instead I like to try different trails. Yet, there are some trails that I do return to now and again because those trails are close by or offer some magic I seek again and again. In general, I like a mix of novelty and tradition with my journeys and events.

To have fun is important in life as it lifts your spirits, brings you close to those you love, and creates strength for the inevitable hard work and challenges that will show up from time to time in your life. Knowing how you define healthy fun is a first step in creating events like this. Onward.
