This is the first Mother's Day of my life when I don't have a mother. I had a mom for 63 years. That's quite remarkable, and I had a Mom who loved me a lot and gave me a many invaluable gifts which I hope to bring forward to my own children.
I've been a Mom for 32 years so far, and I'm so grateful to be a mom--it's tied with being a wife for my favorite roles in life.
This Mother's Day I'll spend the day at home. Two sons are making me dinner while my third son who is unable to be here has promised me a homemade meal in the weeks ahead. I'm fortunate to have such attentive and loving sons.
I'll spend most of the day in the garden, a place that brings me great peace and joy. It's a beautiful weather day. At this moment, I couldn't be happier. May that feeling continue.
Happy Mother's Day to all who nurture and care for others as to me, that's the most important definition of motherhood. Onward.
