Special connections

Throughout life most of us enjoy special connections with others. Those connections range in time from minutes to decades. No matter the amount of time, special connections bring warmth, comfort, meaning, and inspiration to life. Those special connections are true treasures.

I am taking a few mintues to value those connections today as I ready to spend the day with a couple of family members that share one of those very special connections. Just witnessing these two people together is a treat. They clearly and quietly understand each other. It's beautiful.

Who have been my special connections over time?

Early life

Unsurprisingly, I enjoyed many special connections with teachers. I truly loved so many of my teachers over the years. I also enjoyed countless special connections with aunts, uncles, cousins, my parents, and siblings. Further neighbors and friends played an important role too.

Young adulthood

There were special connections in the work place, college, and via many friends and friend's friends. This was a period of multiple connections that helped me to identify the kind of life I wanted and the people I wanted to spend my life with.

Teaching and parenting

This was a period of lots of great connections as my husband and I worked together to parent and I worked with many colleagues to do our best by the children and families we served in education.

Later

Now, close family and friends play a critical role when it comes to special connections. Also, there are many new people who have entered my life in all kinds of ways as I navigate a new chapter that includes caregiving in many new ways and fostering new and past friendships with family members and others.

We can't take our special connections for granted--we have to cherish the time we spend with others. Onward.
