Recently I stayed in a beautiful little apartment with a seaside view. The apartment was filled with books, comfortable furniture, wonderful light, and welcoming spaces. Situated in the center of a small town, there was great walkability when it came to public spaces, shops, and beautiful, natural landscapes. Like few other places I've been too, this rented apartment felt like home.
Where is home? Where is home for you?
The places we live in and cultivate over time become home, and places we may visit for a first time can be home too. While I'm grateful for the space where I live, in many ways it has never felt like home. I've always had a longing for somewhere different, and when I stayed in that little apartment, that longing was fulfilled in some ways. The air, vista, and cozy comfort of the little town apartment called to me in ways that few other places do.
The search for home is a lifelong search, and I don't think that any one place can fulfill that search as no place has everything you desire. Some places may have a climate you like. Others may have the natural landscape you desire. Still more are architecturally pleasing.
Where is home for you?
Are you more of a settler or nomad as that says something about the kinds of homes you desire?
What characteristics of a place spell home for you?
The concept of home draws my attention and energy. I'll continue to ponder this question and I welcome your thoughts.
